Changing Facilities and Race Centre

Race headquarters are at the Uplands Community College Sports Centre in Wadhurst. There are good changing, shower and toilet facilities and a left baggage facility will be in operation.

There is also plenty of parking available at Uplands and also on the surrounding roads. This should prove sufficient, but local runners are kindly requested to avoid bringing their cars if possible, to avoid congestion.

The Route

The Start and Finish will be in the lane opposite the Greyhound Pub. After heading down the lane for 200yds, the route heads across farmland downhill for approximately 1 mile to Bewl Water. There are two stiles and part of the path is narrow and runners are urged not to be too competitive in these early stages. The route heads clockwise around Bewl Water for approximately 8 miles and is relatively flat. It is largely wooded, with some field sections and is not normally muddy in the summer months. The route heads away from Bewl Water at about 9 miles, as it is necessary to avoid the Nature Reserve. There is a 3 mile section along country roads, which are quiet, but not traffic free. This is the hilly part of the course as the road climbs away from the reservoir and then returns to it. The route then returns to the reservoir for a further two miles, before finally reaching the last mile, back up the path to Wadhurst.

We have been granted permission by Southern Water to hold the race, but please remember woodland and other paths can not be closed to the public and you must be tolerant towards other users.

Naturally, the route will be well marshalled and you should obey the instructions of the marshals at all times.

Drinks Stations

The location of the race means that these are limited, and they will be at approximately miles 3, 6, 8, 11 and 13 plus an emergency supply at 14. In addition sponge stations are at 11 and 13 miles. Lucozade sport will be available at miles 6, 11 and 13. We will naturally ensure that these are very well supplied, especially if it should prove a hot day and if this is the case, runners should consider carrying their own water bottles as well.

Course Control and First Aid

Once again runners should be aware that the location of the race means that it will not be possible to offer continuous supervision around the course. In the unlikely event that you experience difficulties, please advise a marshal immediately, who will arrange for assistance. St John Ambulance Services will be in attendance on the day.

If you drop out of the race at any stage, please ensure that you make a race official aware of this.

The Finish

Your individual time and position will be recorded by the finish co-ordinators and you will be presented with your medal. You will also be welcome to enjoy, with our compliments, a selection of from our famous array of delicious cakes!

Refreshments will be available and the Greyhound Pub will remain open all day, with food available until 2.15pm

We will endeavour to display the results as they come in at the Race Centre.

Trophies

There will be trophies awarded to the first male and female runner and vet runner for each of the vet categories 1 to 9. The latter categories will be broken down further, if there is a sufficient entry.

And Finally

We hope that all runners enjoy this unique race and welcome all feedback, before, during and after the event, so that we can make it even better next year.
